Privacy Policy

This policy is about visitors and users of beacon.lk: what happens when you open the site, browse it, or create an account. It is not about the politicians, statements, and public records Beacon publishes. Our handling of that public content is covered by our Terms of Use and Corrections & Right of Reply pages instead.

Creating a Beacon account is optional. Most of the site can be read without one. If you do sign up, we use Supabase, our authentication and database provider, to store your email address, a securely hashed password, and the minimal session information needed to keep you signed in.

We use this only to operate your account: your saved items, alerts, personalised feed, and to contact you about the account itself if we need to. We do not sell, rent, or share your account information with any third party for marketing purposes.

We use Umami, an open-source analytics tool, hosted on our own server rather than a third party's. Umami does not set tracking cookies and does not follow you across other websites. It records aggregate information only: which pages were viewed, referring pages, approximate country, and device or browser type. We cannot use it to identify a specific visitor.

• We do not run advertising on Beacon.
• We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking pixels (Google Ads, Meta Pixel, or similar).
• We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data to any third party.

You can read Beacon without an account. If you have an account and want it deleted, or want a copy of the account information we hold about you, email us and we will act on it promptly.

Beacon is in active development, and this policy will change as the product does. Material changes will be dated on this page.
