Terms of Use & Disclaimer

Beacon is a public-interest project presenting publicly available statements and records of public figures in Sri Lanka for transparency and accountability. It is a journalistic and research resource intended to inform public debate.

1. Nature of the content

Statements attributed to public figures are drawn from public sources, each linked to its original. Any description of statements as inconsistent, contradictory, or unfulfilled represents the opinion of the platform, based on the disclosed public sources. It is offered as fair comment on matters of public interest and should not be read as an assertion of dishonesty or bad faith beyond what those sources support. We make a good-faith effort to be accurate but do not warrant that all content is complete, current, or error-free.

2. Fair comment on matters of public interest

The platform comments on the public conduct of public figures in their public roles, on matters of genuine public interest. Comment is based on facts that are stated or linked. We do not intend to convey, and readers should not infer, any allegation of fact beyond the linked sources. Where our analysis is shown to rest on a factual error, we will correct it.

3. Right of reply

Any person featured on the platform has a right of reply and may request a correction at any time, free of charge. See our Corrections & Right of Reply page. We respond to good-faith requests promptly.

4. Personal data

We process limited personal data about public figures acting in their public capacity, in the public interest and for journalistic and accountability purposes. We do not publish private contact details, home addresses, identity-document numbers, or information about private family life unless it is already a matter of legitimate public record and public interest.

5. Third-party sources and links

We link to external sources for verification. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or availability of third-party sites.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the platform and its operators are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on the content, which is provided “as is” for information and public-debate purposes.

7. Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka. Legal notices and contact: contact@beacon.lk. We may update these terms; material changes will be dated on this page.
